Scunthorpe United close to massive signing coup

Scunthorpe United could be about to do one of the coups of the summer after they had an offer accepted for Wigan Athletic’s Sam Morsy according to a report from Sky Sports via the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

The 24-year-old had only signed for the Latics in January from Chesterfield and despite making 14 appearances for them, helping the club become the champions of Sky Bet League One, he may be on his way out of the DW Stadium. He was a regular in their pre-season games but didn’t feature in their opening game of the season against Bristol City. That’s despite their head coach Gary Caldwell saying he was going to be a big part of the squad.

The reason Scunthorpe potentially signing Morsy is such a big deal is that they appear to have beat out Sheffield United to the deal. When the Blades reportedly made an approach for the former Port Vale man, Caldwell told them that they would need to stump up a lot of money if they wanted to sign him. And now it appears that Scunthorpe have actually stumped up ‘a lot of money’ and will now start to discuss personal terms with the player. Now the question is if Morsy will drop down into League One.
