Newcastle United to offload controversial Serb striker

Newcastle United are going to try and offload Aleksandar Mitrovic according to a report from The Mirror.

There was a lot of expectation around the 21-year-old striker when he signed for the Magpies last summer, especially when it was decided to splash £13m on him. While there were some glimpses of quality, he ended up attracting more attention for his temperament.  He ended up being sent off twice last season, including in their last game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.

This means Mitrovic is missing the start of the season as he’s serving a four match ban and while the coaching staff do think he could make an impact in the Sky Bet Championship, their head coach Rafa Benitez doesn’t trust him not to get in trouble again and is looking to sell him.

The Magpies are currently rebuilding their squad after their relegation from the Premier League and suffered a shock when they lost to Fulham on the opening day of the season. This has shown Benitez that their work in the transfer window isn’t done yet and they are continuing to try and ship out any unnecessary player so they can bring in new players that will help them in their promotion bid.
