Nottingham Forest got off to a good start to the new season yesterday as they beat newly-promoted Burton Albion 4-3. The game was a thrilling contest, with both teams constantly attacking right up until the final whistle.
Burton were perhaps unlucky to lose the game, but both teams could’ve won with the match being as open as it was. Forest striker Britt Assombalonga, linked with a move away from the club, took the plaudits as he scored two goals and completed his first 90 minutes in over a year.
Most Forest fans were thrilled with the result:
Really enjoyed the footie today at the city ground with the family 👍#firstdayoftheseason #nffc #win

Good to get three points. Think we just about did enough. Great so see so many academy lads too.
We will impove.#nffc— Phil Coker (@PhillipeC) August 6, 2016
Despite the result, other fans didn’t want to get too carried away and kept their feet firmly on the ground:
Topsy-turvy game today, but great entertainment! Looked great going forward, improvement needed at the back. Roll on Doncaster on Tues #nffc

Think we need to play more balanced football rather than attacking the whole game. What a game though… #NFFC

Can't defend like that again. Better defenders to return. Kasami excellent, made the difference in 2nd half. Burke/Pereira pace!!!! #NFFC

There was also an overwhelming sense of pride that Nottingham Forest had so many players that had come through the ranks playing in the first team yesterday:
Think Oliver Burke is going to develop into one of my favourite #nffc players. Huge talent! 😀

Faith in the academy prospects paid dividends today. Love picking up 3 points with so many Forest graduates in the side #NFFC 👌👏

So encouraging to see 5 academy graduates starting today. Of course some naivety & room for development but plenty of positive signs #nffc

Overall it was a very good day for Forest and their new manager Philippe Montanier, following the disappointment of last season.
Fans seem pleased with the amount of youth prospects coming through to the first team, with many fans specifically mentioned Oliver Burke as a player with a lot of potential. Britt Assombalonga scored two goals and, if Forest manage to hold onto the striker this month, they look like a team who could do well this season.
