Fulham

PREVIEW: Fulham v Newcastle United

Championship new boys Newcastle United make the long trip to West London on Friday evening to face Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Magpies start a new season under Spaniard Rafa Benitez looking to put the disappointments of last season’s relegation from the Premier League behind them and begin a push for promotion back to the top flight.

Home side Fulham will be looking for a much improved campaign in 2016/2017 after a hugely unimpressive season last season which saw the club finish in 20th position in the Championship table and accrue just 51 points.

The Cottagers have endured a tough summer with influential attacking players Moussa Dembele and Ross McCormack having departed the club in recent weeks and goalscoring ability looks to be the biggest question hanging over the West London club.

Visitors Newcastle United have been very active in the transfer market throughout the summer, signing no less than eight new players and the likes of Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie could be handed their debuts for The Magpies in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Home advantage has been the key to fixtures between the two clubs in previous seasons with the hosts winning the last seven meetings between the two sides. Newcastle United arrive in West London having won just once on opening day in their last eight seasons.
