Charlton Athletic agree deal to sign Wigan defender

Charlton Athletic have agreed a deal to sign Wigan Athletic’s Jason Pearce according to a report from HITC Sport.

The Addicks new head coach Russell Slade has made no secret of the fact that he’s looking for a new leader that can lead the rest of the defence. With Charlton’s leaky defence being one of the reasons they were eventually relegated to League 1, Slade knows he needed to sort the issue if the team were to have any chance to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

And it looks like Charlton may have finally got their man after reports indicated that they had agreed a deal to sign Pearce from Wigan. He hasn’t had the easiest time at the DW Stadium having signed in January 2015 and seeing the Latics be relegated within six months of his signature. However when in League 1 he fell down the pecking order and is willing to leave the club in order to get back to playing first team football.

And now it is expected that Pearce’s move to Charlton should be confirmed in the coming days and that the South London club will have got a key part of their squad just in time for the opening game of the season.
