Burton Albion

Burton Albion – season preview

What an adventure Burton Albion have been on in recent years.

10 years ago, they were a Non-League side, and now they’re preparing for their first ever season in the second tier of English football.

It’s going to be tough for the Brewers, but are they up for the challenge?

Key signings:

It was clear that Burton needed to strengthen their squad in order to challenge in the Championship, and they’ve done just that. They’ve signed a wealth of players with Championship pedigree, including Lloyd Dyer and Chris O’Grady. Dyer has joined on a free transfer, whilst O’Grady is on loan from Brighton. Both players know what it takes to succeed at Championship level, and will bring a lot of experience to the Burton squad.

Key players:

You’d expect the aforementioned new signings to be key for Burton this season, but another player who will play a big part in any success they may have will be Stuart Beavon. He has won the player of the year award at the club for the last two campaigns and will hope to carry that form into Burton’s Championship debut season. He’s an extremely selfless player, who was at the heart of a lot of the Brewer’s goals last year. Without him, they may not be a Championship club.

Prediction:

No-one expects Burton Albion to survive in the Championship, but then again nobody expected them to thrive like they did in League One. It will be an extremely difficult season for the Brewers, but they proved last season they’re more than up to the challenge. However, with the number of top quality teams in the Championship this year, it’s difficult to see anything other than a relegation battle for Burton.
