The Daily Mail reports that Brighton & Hove Albion are to break their club record transfer to sign midfielder Alex Pritchard from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Championship side are to part with £6.5million for the 23-year-old, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.
Pritchard, who can play out wide or in a number ten role, has experience of Championship football from a loan spell at Brentford in the 2014/15 season. He scored 12 goals for the Bees in that season, earned him the Brentford Players’ Player of the Year Award and also a place in the Championship PFA Team of the Year.
He has found first team opportunities under Mauricio Pochettino hard to come by in recent times. His last appearance in the first team came in August 2015, during a 0-0 home draw against Everton. He spent time out on loan with West Bromwich Albion last season as well, but only made three substitute appearances for the Baggies under Tony Pulis.
Pritchard also had a productive loan spell with Swindon Town prior to his Brentford venture, and also a brief stint with Peterborough United as well. Brighton boss Chris Hughton, a former Spurs player and coach, is a big fan of the skilful and creative youngster. He makes the move at a point in his career where he needs regular matches, but he will move to Brighton where they have a plethora of midfield options. Dale Stephens, Beram Kayal, Anthony Knockaert and Steve Sidwell are just four of those vying for one of those midfield slots.
