Nottingham Forest favourites to sign Crystal Palace striker

Nottingham Forest are the current favourites to sign Crystal Palace striker Fraizer Campbell, according to the Nottingham Post.

It is understood that Forest are looking to bring in another striker this summer, despite the signing of Apostolos Vellios, and are very keen on the Crystal Palace man.

Campbell began his career with Manchester United, being loaned out several times before signing for Sunderland in 2009 for an initial £3.5 million.  The forward scored ten goals in 72 appearances for the club, but made his only England appearance whilst at Sunderland, in a friendly defeat against the Netherlands.

Cardiff City then signed Campbell in January 2013, for a fee of £650,000.  The forward enjoyed a good run of form in the Championship, scoring seven times in 12 appearances as Cardiff were promoted to the Premier League.  The following season, Campbell scored six in 37 Premier League appearances as Cardiff were relegated.

Crystal Palace met the £900,000 release clause in Campbell’s contract at the end of the season and he signed for the London club on a three-year deal.  Campbell has only scored four league goals for Palace, and failed to net at all in the league last season in 11 appearances.

After being linked with a move back to Cardiff last summer, it is looking as though Campbell could leave Palace before the start of the season.

However having sold Dwight Gayle to Newcastle and with Campbell currently out of action with an injury, Palace boss Alan Pardew may want to sign another striker or two before letting Campbell depart the club.  At the moment Palace have Connor Wickham as their only fit forward.
