Aston Villa rival Norwich with £12million McCormack bid

Sky Sports reports that Aston Villa have firmly entered the race for Fulham striker Ross McCormack. They have tabled a £12million bid for the prolific goalscorer, who has been heavily linked with a move to Norwich City, who recently had a £10million bid turned down.

The 29-year-old sat out Fulham’s final pre-season friendly before the start of the Championship season when defeating Crystal Palace over the weekend. Head coach Slavisa Jokanovic said this was because of an injury. It is still looking increasingly likely that he will finally leave Craven Cottage for good.

The question is will £12million be deemed acceptable enough for Fulham to accept. McCormack supposedly wants to leave the club, but he still remains under contract with the Whites. Alex Neil is also hoping to bring him to Norwich to significantly boost their offensive options. Cameron Jerome and Kyle Lafferty are the only senior out-and-out strikers they have at the club. Roberto Di Matteo is also fairly limited in the forward area himself, with Jordan Ayew and Rudy Gestede being the only fit forwards he currently has available heading into the first game of the season.

The Glaswegian almost joined now Premier League side Middlesbrough in January, but the move eventually broke down. He netted 23 times for the Cottagers last season, and without his goals then Fulham could very well have been relegated. Speculation continues to spread as to his whereabouts for the upcoming season, but Villa clearly have made their move.
