Marseille turn attention to Norwich midfielder after failure to sign Villa duo

Marseille are now targeting Norwich City’s Youssouf Mulumbu after failing to sign Aston Villa’s Carlos Sanchez and Jordan Veretout according to a report from the French publication L’Equipe.

The French club have made it clear this summer that they are trying to sign a new central midfielder and they looked towards England to get their men. They first targeted Sanchez and Veretout as Aston Villa seemed willing to sell them following their relegation to the Premier League, but both deals broke down as Marseille were unable to meet their high wage demands.

With those players off the table, Marseille are looking for other central midfielders they can sign and Norwich’s Mulumbu is on the top of their list. He was expected to be a key player for the Canaries when he signed from West Brom last summer, but in the end spent very little time on the pitch and had to watch while the club were relegated from the Premier League.

And with Norwich keen on reducing their wage bill after their relegation to the Championship, they seem to be very willing to sell the Congolese midfielder and this report suggests that they might be willing to mutually terminate his contract to make sure he departs, meaning Marseille may be about to get a bargain.
