Winger passes Leeds United medical ahead of move

Championship side Leeds United are set to confirm the signing of winger Pablo Hernandez after the player passed a medical at the club, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay.

Hernandez will join on an initial six-month loan before that move becomes a permanent one in the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old primarily operates as a left winger, but can also play on the right wing or in an attacking midfield position.

Hernandez’s parent club is Al-Arabi in Qatar, although the player spent last season on-loan at Rayo Vallecano in Spain.

In his time at Rayo Vallecano, the winger scored three goals and assisted a further four in 30 appearances in La Liga.

Hernandez has a wealth of experience of playing in Spain’s top division, scoring 22 goals and contributing 26 assists in 166 appearances.

The winger also has Premier League experience with Swansea City, scoring five goals and assisting another 19 in 71 games for the Welsh side.

On the pitch, The Whites have already been active during this summer, signing goalkeeper Rob Green, defender Kyle Bartley, midfielder Matt Grimes and forwards Hadi Sacko, Kemar Roofe and Marcus Antonsson.

Leeds have also been linked with the signing of Italian full-back Gabriele Perico after the 32-year-old joined up with the club’s first team on trial.

The Championship club are also trying to secure the signatures of Conor Shaughnessy and Billy Whitehouse for the club’s under-21s side.

The West Yorkshire outfit have also sold midfielder Lewis Cook to Premier League side AFC Bournemouth for a reported £6 million fee.

Leeds travel to Queens Park Rangers for their season opener in the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship.
