Magpies will submit second bid for Albion midfielder

Newcastle United’s interest in Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Anthony Knockaert will not recede despite having an initial transfer bid for the player rejected by the South Coast club according to the Chronicle Live.

Newcastle United approached Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday with a transfer offer for the player but Seagulls manager Chris Hughton rejected the bid and the club have now tried to warn off The Magpies with a £10 million asking price for the Frenchman.

Despite being knocked back by Albion, it has been reported that Newcastle United will not give up their chase for the player and are expected to submit an improved offer this week as manager Rafa Benitez looks to put the finishing touches to his squad ahead of Friday’s trip to Fulham.

After starting his career in his homeland with Guingamp, Knockaert made the move to England in August 2012 when he signed a three year deal with Leicester City. The player scored 16 goals in 106 appearances for The Foxes helping the club to promotion to the Premier League in the process.

Last summer, the player moved to Belgian Pro League club Standard Liege on a free transfer and spent just seven months at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne before joining Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee in January.

Knockaert has scored five goals in just 16 games for The Seagulls and as the player is crucial to the Albion cause in the coming season, Newcastle United face a tug of war for his signature.
