Carlisle United sign Newcastle defender on loan again

Carlisle United have signed Macauley Gillesphey on loan from Newcastle United for six months as confirmed by the club website.

The 20-year-old defender is very familiar with Brunton Park having initially signed on a short-term loan deal back in September. He then impressed in that spell and had his loan extended until the end of the season and as the Cumbrians finished in mid-table. During this loan period he made 27 appearances and scored two goals.

And he was so critical to Carlisle last season that the club management was keen to bring him back to the club and now Gillesphey has signed on loan with them until January. Now he will be helping the Cumbria based club try to get promoted back to League 1 after a number of seasons where they have failed to challenge for the top seven places.

With Carlisle manager Keith Curle wanting to get the club promoted this season, he has already been busy in the transfer window with Gillesphey being their ninth signing of the summer. The other eight players who have joined Carlisle this season are Shaun Miller, Nicky Adams, Jamie Devitt, Joe McKee, Reggie Lambe, Mike Jones, Shaun Brisley and Russell Penn.
