David Moyes refuses deal to sign Aston Villa defender

Sunderland manager David Moyes has turned down a deal to sign Aston Villa’s Micah Richards according to a report from the Northern Echo.

When Sam Allardyce was the manager of Sunderland, they had lined up a £5m move to bring Richards to the Stadium of Light as they aimed to bolster their squad to avoid another relegation battle.

However over the last week, circumstances have changed on Wearside. Allardyce decided to leave the club to take the England job and then the board were quick to appoint former Manchester United boss Moyes as his replacement. And one of his first acts of manager is to call off the deal to sign Richards and will instead use his budget to focus on signing other targets.

This will be seen as bad news for Villa. After their relegation to the Championship, they were keen to get rid of some of their high earners which didn’t perform to their best in the Premier League. Richards was one of them and they were very happy to see him leave for Sunderland. However now that Moyes has called off the deal, Villa will once again have to shop out the former Manchester City defender to other clubs.
