Sheffield Wednesday to battle with Dutch club to sign Ipswich striker

Sheffield Wednesday are to fight it out with FC Twente to sign Ipswich Town’s David McGoldrick according to a report from HITC Sport.

The 28-year-old striker’s reputation took a dip throughout last season as he was unable to hold down a regular first team spot due to a number of different injuries but before that he was a hot shot in the Championship. In his 100 appearances for the Tractor Boys, he’s scored over 30 goals and had even been the subject of a £8m bid from the now English champions Leicester City.

And despite his injury plagued season, McGoldrick is still attracting plenty of interest. Despite already signing Steven Fletcher this summer, the Owls appear to still be looking for a new striker and are considering making a bid for the forward. The fans will already be familiar with him as he had a one month loan spell with Wednesday back in 2011 when he scored one goal in four appearances.

But if Wednesday want McGoldrick to be playing his football at Hillsborough next season, they will be facing a fight from abroad for him. Dutch club FC Twente are also interested him and are hoping the lure of playing abroad in a league that tends to favour strikers can get him to cross the Northern Sea.
