Leeds United: new midfielder to sign – not Bridcutt

Rumours are flying around Elland Road at the moment about players that the Whites are looking at, many names mentioned for many positions. However, apart from the half-dozen signings done so far this summer, there is nothing concrete – all there is is conjecture. However, according to Radio Yorkshire’s Joe Rawson on Twitter (below), this may about to change.

Dawson, in the following Tweet, says that Leeds United will definitely be doing business in the “next 24 hours” and that a midfield player will be brought on-board at Elland Road. Whilst most Leeds fans are holding out for it to be one particular player, Rawson’s Tweet seems to dispel this hope.

Those Leeds fans hoping that the club would be signing former loanee Liam Bridcutt, who was yesterday left out of Sunderland’s tour to France, seem to have had their hopes dashed by this Tweet from Rawson. Bridcutt has stated that he would be open to a permanent move to Elland Road but the twin sticking points seem to be the Black Cat’s £1.5m valuation of him and Leeds’ reluctance to break a quite rigid wage structure to me his supposed £26,000 weekly wages.

Should it prove to be true and Leeds indeed do sign a midfielder in the space of the next 24 hours, then Twitter and social media in general have been awash with the name of Swedish international Albin Ekdal, a player currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga with SV Hamburg.

As with any rumour, this one is one where Leeds fans will have to wait with both anticipation and bated breath.
