Charlton interested in signing Wigan defender

Charlton Athletic are interested in signing Wigan Athletic’s Jason Pearce according to a report from the South London Press.

New Charlton head coach Russell Slade has made it clear that he’s looking for a strong defender who can lead his defence next season and while he has had a few players in mind for that role, Pearce is now looking to be his main target.

The 28-year-old defender may be available at a cut price rate as well. He only has twelve months to run on his contract and while he was a regular for the Latics last season, making 33 appearances and scoring two goals, Wigan may be willing to sell to make sure they get a fee for him rather than lose him on a free next summer.

And so this report suggests that both clubs are now talking to each other as they aim to thrash out a deal that will see Pearce move to The Valley. It will then be hoped that he can lead the Addicks to promotion and a return to the Championship.

Charlton have already signed five players ahead of next season with Nicky Ajose, Andrew Crofts, Lee Novak, Louis Yamfam and Ricky Holmes already moving to South London.
