Brighton make £2m bid for Blackburn defender

Brighton and Hove Albion have made a £2m bid for Blackburn Rovers’ Shane Duffy according to a report from the Irish Sun.

The 26-year-old defender is coming off the back of an impressive campaign for the Republic of Ireland in Euro 2016 where he helped lead them to the last sixteen. Like many players who did well during that tournament, he has now attracted plenty of interest and things have become more concrete after this report revealed that Brighton had made a £2m bid for him.

The Seagulls have made signing a new centre back their priority this summer. They decided to release their veteran centre back Gordon Greer this summer and Premier League teams Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion have both made bids for their club captain Lewis Dunk, though they have been rejected. And with Greer gone and Dunk possibly going, Brighton need to sign a new centre back to make sure they have enough depth in that area going into next season.

Brighton aren’t the only team interested in signing Duffy though. Reports have also suggested that Wolves, off the back of their takeover, and Celtic are also hoping to sign the Irish defender to try and improve their back four ahead of next season.
