Aston Villa and Newcastle United looking to sign former Bayern striker

Aston Villa and Newcastle United are considering making a move for Ivica Olic according to a report from German publication Bild.

The Croatian forward spent three years at Bayern Munich back in the early 2010s and managed to take advantage of injury and suspension to make himself into a first teamer even though he was only signed up as a back up for Miroslav Klose and Mario Gomez.

Most recently he was at Hamburg but really struggled there, despite getting off to the best possible start by scoring a goal on his debut in the German Cup fixture against Zeiss Jana. He would however never score again and made most of his appearances from off the bench.

Now that he is a free agent though, he has attracted interested from Aston Villa and Newcastle United. While Olic is now aging, he is now 36-years-old, he still has a presence up front that both clubs think could help them in their attempt to get promoted back to the Premier League up front.

However Olic could elect to stay in Germany rather than taking his foray into English football. 1860 Munich, who play in the same stadium as his former team Bayern, are also considering making a bid for the striker to boost their squad.
