Norwich City leading race to sign Northern Ireland international

Norwich City are leading the race to sign free agent Michael McGovern according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Canaries had been looking for a new goalkeeper after both Jon Ruddy and Declan Rudd were criticised last season for their level of performances as well as one of their reserves Jake Kean moving on to join Sheffield Wednesday.

And like many Championship teams, they were impressed with the performances of McGovern for Northern Ireland at Euro 2016. He became one of the stars of the tournament after his string of saves helped lead his team into the last sixteen, with his highlight being a man of the match performance against Germany.

This led him to leave his previous club Hamilton Academical to try and move to a bigger club and according to this report, he may be about to assist in Norwich’s promotion bid. While other clubs such as Leeds United and Burnley, who are now looking to sign Nick Pope from Charlton Athletic, have been interested in the 32-year-old, it appears that it will be Norwich who get his signature this summer.

Fans of Norwich will be happy to get another signing in as the only player who has been brought in so far is Sergi Canos from Liverpool.
