Fulham close in on new number one from Championship rival

Get West London reports that Fulham will sign David Button from Brentford. The goalkeeper is also expected to become the number one goalkeeper at Craven Cottage. Marcus Bettinelli however will challenge him for the number one jersey with the Cottagers.

Since joining the Bees in 2013, the 27-year-old has played over 130 times for the club. He was part of the team to reach promotion out of League One in 2014, when they finished as runners up. Slavisa Jokanovic lost keeprs Andy Lonergan and Joe Lewis from his squad this summer.

He has a year remaining on his current contract, so Jokanovic should sign the player up for a relatively cheaper price. With Daniel Bentley signing from Southend United earlier this summer, Dean Smith has a new number one, meaning Button can move on. The club had tried to negotiate a new deal with the shotstopper, but those talks broke down.

Button will become the fifth signing of the summer at Craven Cottage as Jokanovic aims to improve upon last seasons poor showing in the Championship. Floyd Ayite, Sone Aluko, Denis Odoi and Tomas Kalas have all joined the club over the course of the last few months. Michael Madl also made his loan deal permanent.
