Charlton Athletic duo set to sign for Burnley

Charlton Athletic are set to suffer a double blow over the coming days, as two of their first team players close in on deals with Burnley.

Winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson and goalkeeper Nick Pope are the two players in question, and they’re both expected to join the Lancashire club in the near future.

The pair are both undergoing medicals at the recently promoted club, according to Club Call.

Gudmundsson has just returned from his summer break, following a busy summer at Euro 2016 with his native Iceland.

He is expected to sign for Burnley in a deal worth £2.5million.

There is no official confirmation of the fee agreed to sign Nick Pope, but it was reported last week that an offer of just short of £1million was rejected by the League One club.

It’s been a frustrating transfer window so far for Burnley, who have seen a bid for Derby County’s Jeff Hendrick be rejected, and a deal to sign Dale Stephens through.

Gudmunsson joined Charlton in 2014, and has had two successful seasons with the club. In his first season, he was voted as runner up for the club’s player of the season, and the 2015/16 season saw him named as joint highest assist maker in the Championship.
