Dejphon Chansiri blames Financial Fair Play for high ticket rpices

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has blamed Financial Fair Play for this season’s high ticket prices according to a report from Owlsonline.

Wednesday fans took to social media in anger when it was revealed that their opening game fixture against Aston Villa, which will be televised on Sky Sports, could cost an adult £49. They believed it was another sign of the inflating price of football and that it was simply taking advantage of fans, in line with the Football Supporters Federation saying tickets should only cost £20.

However at the Sheffield Wednesday Steering Group meeting, where fans and the club’s ownership can discuss issues relating to the club, Chansiri revealed that ticket prices are high because of Financial Fair Play rules. He said that if he wanted to spend big money on players, and it seems as if that is what they want to do with the club being linked with moves for Ross McCormack and Grant Hanley, he is unable to charge £20 a ticket as they would most likely lose a lot of money which would see a transfer embargo placed upon them, as per FFP rules.

At the meeting, Chansiri also made remarks on the controversial new home shirt, revealing that he doesn’t actually like stripes but kept them in some sort of form because of the club’s history.
