Leeds United willing to sell veteran defender

Leeds United are aiming to sell Sol Bamba this transfer window according to a report from Page 61 of The Sun.

Despite the fact the 31-year-old defender is a regular for Leeds and is the club captain, he has put in inconsistent performances while playing for Leeds and as new manager Garry Monk aims to rebuild his squad, he has placed Bamba on the transfer list and is willing to sell him for a fee of £500K.

However even in a summer where many clubs are willing to overpay to get their man, Leeds may not be able to get rid of Bamba even for half a million. He is reported to be on very high wages, which may be one of the reasons Monk wants to rid of the defender, and that means Leeds may have to agree to release him by mutual consent in order to get rid of him.

Improving the defence has been a priority for Leeds this summer. Already they have got rid of Giuseppe Bellusci by loaning him out to Italian side Empoli and have got in a replacement by signing Kyle Bartley from Swansea City on loan. Reports also say Leeds are in the market for another defender as they are currently linked with Bari’s Valerio di Cesare.
