Villa set for pre-season friendly double header

Aston Villa are set for two pre-season friendly matches this afternoon when they travel to local non league sides AFC Telford United and Worcester City.

The Birmingham Mail has reported that Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo will split his first team squad and send half of the squad to the New Bucks Head to face AFC Telford United and the other half to face Worcester City at the Walshes Meadow ground in Stourport.

It is understood that Villa will field a team including first team players Rudy Gestede, Jordan Ayew, Scott Sinclair, Ashley Westwood and Idrissa Gana in the midday kick off against The Bucks while new boys Pierluigi Gollini and Tommy Elphick could also feature.

Meanwhile in Stourport, Aaron Tshibola, Jack Grealish, Stiliyan Petrov, Gabby Agbonlahor, Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott are some of the names expected to feature in the second pre-season fixture against Worcester City.

In a bid to assess the performance of his full squad, it is thought that Villa boss Di Matteo will attempt to attend both fixtures depending on traffic.

Aston Villa go into this afternoon’s pre-season matches having returned from a pre-season training camp in Austria which has seen Roberto Di Matteo get to know his players better after being appointed manager at the start of last month.
