Sheff Wed keeper close to joining local rivals

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lewis Price is set to join Championship rivals Rotherham United. He is out of contract at Hillsborough, but was widely expected to pen a year extension with the Owls.

However he is very much the third-choice goalkeeper under Carlos Carvalhal, behind Keiren Westwood and Joe Wildsmith. He is set to link up with the Millers, who are now managed by Alan Stubbs.

The 31-year-old as played for several clubs over the course of his career, which includes many loan moves away. The Welshman started off at Ipswich Town, where he came through the ranks. He left to join Derby County in 2007, but only played nine times in three years for the Rams. Price then linked up with Crystal Palace before joining Sheff Wed last summer.

Price played seven times for the club last season, five in the league when covering for the two goalkeepers that were injured in the squad. He will now challenge Lee Camp for the number one jersey at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

He is holding talks with the South Yorkshire club, but is likely to sign what should be a one-year contract with the Millers in the coming days. Should he make the move, then he would have to wait until December 17th before facing Sheff Wed.
