So after starting pre-season a bit later than other teams after making the play off final last season, Sheffield Wednesday finally kicked off their pre-season schedule with what seemed to be a simple game away at Alfreton Town.
Of course, Wednesday have bad memories of Alfreton. Many years ago headlines were made when an Owls XI, mostly compromised of youngsters, lost 14-0 to them, causing serious embarrassment to both the club and fans. Good luck finding any trace of it on their club website.
But even with that game still in the minds of some Wednesday fans, most expected to win against non-league opposition. And while the team had chances to win, they were only able to score once with Barry Bannan scoring a corker.
And towards the end of the game Wednesday were punished when Paul Clayton headed in for Alfreton. For more details on this draw, you can read our match report here.
But the question is how did Wednesday fans react to drawing their first game of pre-season? Did they stay calm and realise it’s just a friendly, get irritated that things aren’t developing as they hoped or go nuts and think everyone should be sacked and ten more signings needed. Let’s see.
Remember #swfc drew at Alfreton a year ago and we went on to have the best and most entertaining season for years. Its an Omen! 🙂
