Premier League club set to swoop for QPR defensive duo

Bournemouth are looking to land the signatures of Queens Park Rangers defensive pairing Steven Caulker and Nedum Onuoha, according to the Daily Star.

QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, now in his first full season at the club, will be eager to bolster his squad’s depth in order for The Hoops to bounce back from a disappointing 12th place finish in the 2015/16 Championship campaign.

However, the former Burton boss’ immediate concerns lie with the potential outgoings of defensive duo Nedum Onuoha and Steven Caulker from Loftus Road. Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth have supposedly lined up combined bids of £15 million in an attempt to secure both players’ switch to Dean Court this summer.

Hoops club captain Onuoha has become an integral feature in the QPR team since making the switch to the West London club from Manchester City in 2012. 131 appearances and five goals in five seasons at the club have endeared the 29-year-old to Hoops fans, and would represent a major blow to the defensive depths in Hasselbaink’s side if the 29-year-old were to depart Loftus Road.

Caulker however is a player QPR have been desperate to offload according to the Daily Star, with Hasselbaink eager to jettison the 24-year-old’s pricey £40,000 wage deal. Despite making 35 Premier League appearances in the 2014-15 season, Caulker’s exploits were unable to prevent The Hoops from the drop.

Unwilling to shoulder the English international’s wages, QPR shipped Caulker out for the entirety of the 2015-16 season, the midfielder failing to impress in separate loan spells with Southampton and Liverpool.

Whilst QPR may look to cash in on Caulker’s services, The Hoops will likely put up a fight to retain club captain Onuoha, in the hopes the defender can aid the club’s hopes of challenging for a promotion spot and a return to the Premier League.
