Gillingham offer trial to non-league star

Gillingham have signed striker Moses Emmanuel on a short-term trial, beating out competition from Stevenage, Newport County and Grimsby for the forward’s services.

The former Brentford forward has displayed sensational scoring form in the National League since making a 2014 switch to fifth division side Bromley. Emmanuel bagged 35 goals in 82 appearances across two seasons, including 20 strikes that helped guide Bromley to a 14th place finish in the top division outside the EFL.

However, upon the expiration of his contract with The Ravens, Emmanuel departed Bromley, and has been searching for a return to the EFL for the first time since 2010.

Despite significant interest from multiple League Two sides, Justin Edinburgh’s Gillingham have swooped to secure Emmanuel’s services, offering the 26-year-old a trial to prove himself a worthy addition to their attacking arsenal.

Having competed amongst the top six teams in League One throughout the 2015/16 campaign, Gillingham ultimately recorded a disappointing 9th place finish, and will be eager to compete for promotion this season in the hopes of returning to the Championship for the first time since 2005.

With rumours swirling regarding the future of star man Bradley Dack, Gills boss Edinburgh will be desperate to secure attacking reinforcements if Dack does indeed depart Priestfield Stadium this summer.

Emmanuel will likely be handed his first opportunity to prove himself worthy of a full-time contract in Gillingham’s upcoming friendly match against Braintree Town on 19th July.
