QPR agree fee for in-demand League One midfielder

West London Sport reports that Queens Park Rangers have agreed a fee with London rivals Charlton Athletic over the signing of Jordan Cousins. The midfielder is set to move to Loftus Road for an initial fee of £1.25million, which will could possibly rise to £1.4million.

The 22-year-old has been left out of the Charlton squad for their pre-season friendly against Bromley on Tuesday. Several Championship clubs have been linked with the highly-rated player, but QPR look set to win that race.

There is a chance Cousins will make his debut for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in their pre-season clash against Northampton Town. He played a total of 136 matches for the Addicks, scoring seven goals in the process.

Speculation surrounding Cousins has been life ever since relegation was confirmed. Russell Slade certainly doesn’t want to lose key players such as Cousins, but the money received could very well go back into their own transfer budget to strengthen the squad.

It looks set to become the latest signing for Hasselbaink as he moulds his own squad at Loftus Road. Several higher-earning players have left already this summer, and more can be expected to depart as well. For Charlton, they’ll be looking to replace their outgoing midfielder sooner rather than later.
