Marseille eye swoop for another Aston Villa midfielder

French giants Marseille are weighing up a move for Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez after missing out on teammate Idrissa Gana according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Ligue 1 club initially wanted to sign Villa’s Senegalese midfielder Gana however Marseille ended their interest in signing the player after failing to meet the £7 million release clause in Gana’s contract.

It has now been reported that Marseille are set to turn their attentions towards a more affordable target and the club are now thought to be preparing a £3 million bid for another Aston Villa midfielder in the form of Colombian Carlos Sanchez. The player is mid-way through his four year contract at Villa Park however Sanchez could be sold with the Midlands club currently not short of midfield options.

Sanchez started his career in Uruguay with River Plate Montevideo before moving to French top flight club Valenciennes. The midfielder scored 10 goals in 184 appearances during a successful spell the Ligue 1 outfit before joining Spanish club Elche.

The midfielder spent a season at the Estadio Martínez Valero before Aston Villa came calling for the player’s services in August 2014. Sanchez has gone on to make 56 appearances for Villa and has scored one goal but it is unknown whether the Colombian will still be at Villa Park come the start of the new season.
