Celtic line up third bid for Aston Villa winger

The Telegraph understands that Celtic are to return to Aston Villa with a third bid for winger Scott Sinclair. Brendan Rodgers is desperate to sign the player, who impressed with him whilst at Swansea City. They’re set to produce a £3million bid.

The Championship club have previously rejected two offers from the Scottish giants. Roberto Di Matteo says he is keen to trim the numbers of his squad after signing three players of his own this summer.

After signing originally on loan from Man City in January 2015, 27-year-old Sinclair penned a permanent contract this time last year. His first full season in the club resulted in relegation to the Championship. He helped himself to six goals last season, four of those coming in the League Cup.

Sinclair’s career has certainly hit something of a brick wall in recent times. The last time he could be deemed a success was probably when with Rodgers at Swansea. Since then, a big money move to Man City failed to pay off. He started only twice in the Premier League for the club. He would be loaned out to West Brom and the Villa before leaving permanently.

Rodgers clearly believes he can get the best out of him. Playing in a team which will challenge for the title could certainly install some confidence back into his game. With Di Matteo eager to trim numbers, he is bracing himself for a bid this week.
