Championship: Brighton v Ipswich PREVIEW

AMEX Stadium, Saturday 22nd March 2014 (3pm kick off)

FORM (Last 10, all competitions)
Brighton – LWWDLLWDWW
Ipswich – WDWDDLWLWL

  • Town are seeking their second successive away win, following their victory at Yeovil on March 11, but face a tough test against a Brighton team that hold the record for most clean sheets recorded in the Championship this season (17).
  • Brighton have lost just one of their last nine league games at the AMEX Stadium, while Town have only one win on the road since Boxing Day.
  • Only Huddersfield have been successful in stopping Brighton scoring on their home patch this season, while Ipswich have only kept four clean sheets in 18 away games this season.

I believe it’s now do or die for Ipswich at this point of the season. A win would be huge for the Tractor Boys,
keeping them right within the mix going into the last 10 games for the play-off push.

5th   Wigan              59pts
6th   Nottm Forest   57pts

7th   Reading           56pts
8th   Brighton         56pts
9th   Ipswich           51pts

10th Blackburn        49pts

However defeat for Ipswich and their play-off hopes would really be dampened.
Taking a closer look at both of the team’s current league positions (above) a win for the Seagulls and the gap between the chasing pack and Ipswich will grow that little further.

Whatever the destiny for Ipswich this season, take nothing away from them. Mick McCarthy really has done a sterling job, turning Ipswich from Relegation threatened at the midpoint of last season, to now fighting for a play-off spot. If it’s not this season for Ipswich, it certainly could be next.

We are well and truly at the business end of the season and Brighton have started to pick up a good run of form at the right time, this will make for a cracking game at the Amex Saturday, that with a respectable 1,700 travelling Ipswich fans and a bumper home ground of 27,500+.
