Derby receive unlikely midfielder bid from Championship rival

Fulham have submitted a bid for Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick. The Sun (10th July, Page 62) reports that the Rams previously turned away an enquiry from their Championship rivals. Premier League clubs remain interested in the Republic of Ireland international.

The 24-year-old midfielder is still attracting the attentions of Middlesbrough and Burnley, who were both promoted out of the Championship last season. Sean Dyche is keen to find a replacement for Joey Barton, whilst Aitor Karanka wants strength in depth to his top flight squad.

Hendrick played all four games for Martin O’Neill’s Ireland side at Euro 2016 this summer. His impressive showings led to Slavisa Jokanovic instructed the Fulham hierarchy to make an unlikely bid.

Considering it isn’t clear if Hendrick would leave for a Premier League club, it is even more unlikely he would move to Fulham. Unless Fulham could offer a significant financial offer again, an improved one, then Hendrick won’t be moving to Craven Cottage.

Nigel Pearson is of course extremely hopeful that the Irishman will remain at the iPro Stadium. However he would have to concede that if a Premier League side bids then it could make things different.

Hendrick has played over 150 matches for the club since coming through the youth ranks with the Championship club.
