Fulham close to deal for Wolves midfielder

Fulham are close to landing the signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Kevin McDonald, according to the Express and Star.

Fulham have reportedly agreed a fee that’ll secure the 27-year-old’s switch to Craven Cottage ahead of the upcoming Championship season.

McDonald came close to sealing a deal with The Whites last summer, however Wolves boss Kenny Jackett refuted two bids of £1m and £1.25m. Despite a change in management for Fulham a year on, their relentless pursuit of McDonald continues, and it appears the West London club are close to nabbing their man.

The Scotsman did not appear in the Wolves squad that travelled to Shrewsbury for a preseason clash against the League One club on Saturday, leading to mounting speculation of a deal being in the works.

McDonald began his professional career at Dundee, before lengthy spells at both Burnley and Sheffield United. A 2013, £750,000 switch to Molineux however truly ignited the midfielder’s career, becoming an integral part of the Wolves squad that secured the League One title in 2014.

Overall, the 27-year-old has made 126 appearances for Wolves, bagging eight goals in the process.

Amid rumours of a high-profile club takeover by Chinese businessman Robin Li, Wanderers boss Kenny Jackett has admitted having to place potential incoming deals on hold, however seemingly has been able to secure a deal that sees McDonald exit Molineux.

Acquiring McDonald’s services will significantly bolster the midfield ranks of Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham, boosting the club’s chances of improving on a disappointing 2015/16 campaign which saw The Whites narrowly avoid relegation to League One.
