FC Eindhoven starlet and Barnsley – what you need to know

A recent report in the Eindhovens Dagblad publication, as picked up and reported by The72, revealed that Barnsley have had an offer for young Belgian Jinty Caenepeel refused by FC Eindhoven.

Eindhovens Dablad revealed that Barnsley had put in a bid for the exciting youngster that was dismissed by Eindhoven’s technical manager Harm van Veldhoven. According to the Dutch publication van Veldhoven thought the bid too low and said “they [Barnsley] offered the same amount as FK Ufa,” a bid that was also refused.

Jinty Caenepeel signed for FC Eindhoven only at the beginning of August 2015 on a free transfer from KAA Gent. Caenepeel had come through the youth ranks of the Belgian club and was signed by the Dutch side after he had completed a loan at Belgian second-tier side Cercle Brugge.

Caenepeel, a Belgian youth international with eight goals at all youth levels from U15-U19, is certainly a young player with a keen eye for goal. Last season, whilst making 29 appearances in Eindhoven’s Jupiler League campaign, the 19-year-old scored 15 goals. This 15-goal return included a brace against Jupiler League leaders FC Volendam – two goals that gave Eindhoven a 2-1 victory.

Caenepeel is currently under contract at Eindhoven for a further two seasons until the end of June 2018. Whilst Eindhoven have rebuffed Barnsley’s initial approach, the fact that the Dutch club have said the offer was ‘too low’ does give an indication that they are willing to sell. This may provide some hope to the Tykes if they are wishing to up their initial bid.
