Ipswich keen on deal for experienced Premier League winger

The East Anglian Daily Times understands that Ipswich Town are hoping to sign winger Michael Kightly this summer. Tractor Boys boss Mick McCarthy knows all about the 30-year-old, after he signed the player when managed at Wolverhampton Wanderers ten years ago.

Kightly is still on the books of Championship title winners Burnley. It is understood that Sean Dyche would be open to the player leaving Turf Moor. However finances will play a major part in any potential deal.

With only a year left on his Clarets deal, Ipswich would be hoping to sign the player for a cut-price deal. Wages could also be a stumbling block too. He is currently earning much more than any other Ipswich Town player, so would almost certainly need to lower that figure should he move.

It is believed that Kightly was on a coaching course recently, where Ipswich captain Luke Chambers was also in attendance. The ex-Stoke City man supposedly told Chambers that he would be keen on reuniting himself with Mick McCarthy once more.

Winger is certainly a position that the Championship club need to strengthen. They lost many in this area since the season ended. There is the possibility of re-signing Arsenal wide man Ainslie Maitland-Niles on loan. McCarthy is known for buying players he has utilised at old clubs. Christophe Berra and Kevin Foley also played at Wolves and are in the current Ipswich Town squad.
