Wolves reportely close to Billionaire takeover

Chinese Billionaire Robin Li is on the verge of completing the takeover of the West Midlands club, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Li, who is worth an estimated £14 billion, reportedly double the net worth of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, looks set to take over the Championship club in the coming weeks, with Julien Lopetegui heavily rumoured to replace Kenny Jackett as Wolverhampton Wanderers manager.

As a result, the club has been linked with an array of high-calibre players, including FC Porto forward Vincent Aboubakar and experienced Belgian midfielder Steven Defour – amassing almost 100 international appearances between them. Signings of this ilk would emphasise the extent of Li’s ambitions for the club, adding to their current crop of talent, including Nouha Dicko and Dominic Iorfa.

In addition to this, the latest betting odds suggest the deal is close to completion, with Wolves just 10/1 to win the Championship title, slashed from 40/1 in a matter of hours. At present, Wolves are one of the favourites to be promoted even though the takeover is currently incomplete.

The recent League One side certainly have the potential to reach the Premier League once again, despite a four-year absence from the prestigious top flight. Potential new owner Robin Li will be immediately aiming to improve on last season’s 14th placed-finish under the ownership of outgoing Steve Morgan.

The British businessman made the decision to sell the club in September 2015, stating ‘time constraints’ were behind his decision to step down. In the past nine months, however, the club have received few ‘firm offers’ to match Morgan’s £30 million asking-price.

What are your thoughts on this possible takeover? Do Wolves fans expect this takeover to be of great benefit for their immediate and long-term future?
