Barnsley target loan move for Liverpool winger

Barnsley are looking to secure the loan signing of Liverpool youngster Ryan Kent, according to the Daily Mail.

Kent spent the first four months of the 2015/16 campaign on loan at League One side Coventry City, making his professional debut in The Sky Blues’ 1-0 defeat against Scunthorpe on 3rd November.

The 19-year-old would feature 17 times in total with the League One promotion-chasers, most notably scoring his only goal of his loan spell in Coventry’s thrilling 4-3 victory over current suitors Barnsley.

After an impressive loan spell, Kent returned to Liverpool to receive inspection from Reds boss Jürgen Klopp. Clearly impressing the German boss enough, Kent was handed his first-team debut with Liverpool in The Reds’ third-round FA Cup clash away at Exeter on 5th January 2016. Kent played the first 57 minutes in a game that would see Exeter pull off a shock 2-2 draw to send the tie back to Anfield for a replay.

However, Kent received no further opportunities to feature in Klopp’s team, and looks set to return to the Football League, with newly-promoted Championship side Barnsley on the verge of securing the youngster’s talents.

It is not yet clear as to the length of any potential loan deal between Kent and The Tykes. However, boss Paul Heckingbottom will be determined to acquire the 19-year-old’s services to bolster Barnsley’s attacking corps ahead of a challenging Championship campaign.
