Norwich City join Leeds United in the hunt for International goalkeeper

According to a report from the Bristol Post this afternoon, Norwich City have joined their Championship rivals Leeds United in the pursuit of free agent Michael McGovern.

The 31 year-old keeper last plied his trade for Scottish Premiership outfit Hamilton Academical but was released at the start of the month.

Leeds United were rumoured to have interest in the shot-stopper last month and other clubs, including Bristol City and Wigan Athletic, but it is unclear which team is the favourite at this time.

McGovern played for Northern Ireland at the Euro 2016 tournament and increased his stock with some impressive performances – notably against Germany in the group stages.

Starting his career with Scottish giants Celtic, McGovern was with the Hoops for seven years but failed to make a league appearance for the SPL Champions before moving away to Dundee United.

A short stint with the Terrors, in which playing time was severely limited, the keeper then enjoyed a successful spell with Ross County – playing as their first-choice stopper for two seasons.

Good form brought about a move to Falkirk where McGovern would spend three years, winning the Scottish Challenge Cup in the 2011-12 season.

This preceded his move to Hamilton where, before he was released, he was the club captain.

Earning 15 international caps since his debut in 2010, McGovern is highly experienced with over 350 professional appearances to his name.
