Mourinho targets Championship ace to bolster Man Utd squad

The Sun reports that Manchester United are to make a sensational move for Derby County midfielder Will Hughes. Jose Mourinho wants to add more homegrown players to his Old Trafford squad.

It is believed that the Championship side would demand a £7million fee for Hughes. Nevertheless, they are expected to offer him a new contract. His current iPro Stadium deal expires in two more years.

Several top flight clubs have monitored the progress of Hughes for some time. His rapid rise through the ranks and onto the first-team scene with the Rams has been exceptional. Aged 21, he has played over 100 senior games for the club.

He missed most of last season with a knee-ligament injury. He returned for their end of season run, including their play-off campaign.

The Red Devils has asked Derby to keep their up-to-date with his overall progress. They believe he is potentially already ready to compete for a first-team place under Mourinho.

The Premier League giants have already added the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly to their roster this summer. Portuguese Mourinho is understandably keen on Hughes, who has impressed for a few seasons now. For any Man Utd fans not too aware of the player, check out the video below!
