Bury sign former Manchester City youngster

Bury have signed Greg Leigh from Bradford City on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 21-year-old defender spent last season with Bradford City after earning a contract with them after a successful trial but instead of breaking into the first team like he wanted, he only went on to make nine appearances for them. Now though he will get a chance with another team after he signed a two year contract with the club.

He signed with good pedigree having come through the Manchester City academy. He stayed in Manchester until he was 20-years-old when he was released despite coming off the back of a successful loan spell with Crewe Alexandra. While with the Railwaymen he made 42 appearances despite only initially signing a short term deal to cover for other defenders who had been ruled out with injury.

The signing of Leigh continues what has been a very busy summer for David Flitcroft and co as they aim to rebuild the squad ahead of next season. Leigh is the seventh signing for the Lancashire side this summer after previously bringing in Nicky Clark, Zeli Ismail, Anthony Kay, Niall Maher, Chris Kirkland and Ben Williams. But can they all get used to Flitcroft’s tactics and bring success to the club as quickly as they want?
