Scotland international striker joins Sheff Wed

Sheffield Wednesday have announced the signing of former Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher. The Scottish international has signed a four-year contract at Hillsborough.

The 29-year-old spent time on loan in Ligue 1 with French giants Marseille last season. Sam Allardyce let Fletcher go at the end of last season, electing not to offer him an extension.

Fletcher has totalled £15million in transfer fees over the course of his career. To date, he has collected 28 caps for the Scotland national team.

It all began in his native Scotland with Hibernian. 52 goals for Hibs saw him attract the attentions of several clubs south of the border. Burnley won that respective race, paying £3million for his services.

After a season he departed to Wolves, where his goal to game ratio was most impressive. In 41 league starts, he scored 22 goals. That was enough to impress Sunderland enough to part company with £12million.

After signing for Marseille in February, he would score two goals for the underachieving side. Several clubs tried to sign him over the course of the summer. Carlos Carvalhal has now got his man and a healthy four-year contract is probably what swayed it for him. He will link up with his new teammates in time for pre-season.
