Wednesday ready to drop £11m+ for this player

Goals come at a premium, the more a striker scores than the more he is worth. It is this sentiment that is driving Sheffield Wednesday to consider bidding £11.5m for Ross McCormack, according to the Yorkshire Post (YP).

Strikers tend to have hot-n’-cold seasons, consistency often letting them down, that can’t be said of McCormack. 29-year-old McCormack has scored consistently over the past three seasons in the Championship, all for under-performing teams.

Over the past three seasons, the Scotland forward has scored 66 times and provided 26 assists. When playing for Leeds United in the 2013/14 season, McCormack won the Championship Golden Boot with 28 goals.

This brought about a big money move to Fulham where the consistent hit-man has struck 38 goals across two seasons in the capital.

It is this goal threat and potential that has forced the hand of Sheffield Wednesday. The Yorkshire Post say that Wednesday are ready to smash their transfer record to bring the free-scoring striker back to Yorkshire. The YP say that the Owls are definitely interested in McCormack’: “who is believed to be the subject of an £11.5m bid.”

Should this bid be accepted and the Fulham forward then become a Wednesday player, it would double the previous transfer fee paid by the Owls – a £5.7m capture of Paolo Di Canio in 1997.

Buying a player like Ross McCormack, a proven goal-scorer at this level would benefit any side. Wednesday came unbelievably close to promotion, losing out in the Play-Off Final at Wembley – a game that saw Middlesbrough promoted to the Premier League.

McCormack playing alongside Fernando Forestieri might just well be the dream ticket that will bring the Owls that seat at the top table.
