Ross McCormack

Fulham may be forced into lowering asking price for striker

The Daily Mail understands that Fulham may need to adjust their asking price for striker Ross McCormack. Whilst Slavisa Jokanovic doesn’t want to sell, he wants new players, and selling the Scot would bring in some funds.

However, on Friday, a £12million clause in McCormack’s contract with expire on Friday. Interested parties are struggling to agree to the £12million asking price. Should McCormack leave next month, then it would likely be for less than £12million.

Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Norwich City, Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday are all monitoring the situation. All wish to add the proven goalscorer to their ranks.

The Glaswegian striker only signed a new contract at Craven Cottage quite recently. In January he submitted a transfer request in the hope to secure a move to Middlesbrough. That fell through, and he eventually penned a new deal. That included an ‘escape clause’ which will expire later this week.

It leaves Jokanovic in something of a tricky situation. They obviously want to keep the player for his goals but he was ultimately part of a struggling team last season. New recruits are needed and finances would need to be raised to bring them in. McCormack is certainly their most sellable asset. Since joining the club, he has scored 42 goals. Prior to this, he scored 58 goals for Leeds United.
