Leeds United: Premier League player opts not to join Whites

Whenever a team employ a new manager/head coach, there are always fan’s eyes cast toward teams they’d previously managed. Fans tend to hope that the strings of influence they once had could be pulled once more to land almost fantasy players. This is not to be in the case of Garry Monk and old club Swansea, according to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP).

Leeds have been linked with both Swansea midfielder Leon Britton and centre-back Kyle Bartley, but the YEP report that Britton is all set “to quash” chances of Leeds fans seeing him turn out for their team by signing a new contract at the Liberty Stadium.

Both Bartley and Britton played under Monk when the Leeds United head coach was manager of the Swans, but it appears that Britton is going to expend his time in Wales with this signing of a new contract.

The midfielder, who is 34 in September, has been a regular in the Swansea side during the last Premier League campaign, making 25 appearances and earning 1,525 minutes on the field.

Britton, who started out his football career with Arsenal’s youth set-up has been with Swansea since January 2011 when he signed from Sheffield United for a nominal fee of around £40,000. Britton had only made the move in the opposite direction in July 2010 on a free transfer.

With Britton likely to sign a new contract any time soon, Leeds’ options might be limited to centre-back Bartley who the YEP say “remains a prime target” for Leeds manager Garry Monk and who “is believed to be willing” to drop down a league on a season-long loan deal with United.
