Palace striker agrees terms with Newcastle United

Newcastle United are close to completing the signing of Crystal Palace’s Dwight Gayle after he agreed contract terms according to a report from the Daily Mirror.

The 25-year-old striker signed for the Eagles back in 2013 for a fee to be believed around £4.5m and has been unlucky since as he usually is a substitute then comes on to make an impact. In fact if you look at his stats, he has made 27 league starts but 37 appearances as a substitute. Despite that, he is a fan favourite for the South London club and is remembered for scoring the equalising goal in their sensational comeback against Liverpool to make it 3-3 which also derailed the Merseyside club’s Premier League title bid.

And with Palace looking to sign a new striker as that was one of their main issues last season, Gayle has been pushed further away from the first team fold and was always likely to be sold this summer.

And now his destination looks definite after these reports suggested that Gayle has agreed personal terms with Newcastle and only needs to complete a medical in order to confirm his move to Tyneside. He had been chased by Fulham and Aston Villa, but it appeared that only the Magpies were willing to stump up the £10m fee that Palace wanted.
