Ipswich Town have signed Paul Digby from Barnsley on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who can also play in defence, was once hailed as one of the best players to come through the Tykes academy in recent years but he was out of favour at the start of last season with the then head coach Lee Johnson.
Therefore he only made three appearances for Barnsley last season with two of them being in the Johnstone Paints Trophy. Digby ended up getting an unlikely rescuer though when Ipswich decided to sign him on loan until the end of the season in January.
And while he would only go on to make six appearances for the Tractor Boys, it was enough to convince manager Mick McCarthy to give him a one year deal after Barnsley contract expired. There is also an option to extend the contract by another if he performs well.
After signing for Ipswich, Digby said “I’m really excited because I had a great time here before,”
“In finishing seventh we were a bit disappointed more than anything. I think a lot of teams would have been happy being that high up the table but we weren’t really satisfied with it.”
“I think we can push on this season so I’m really looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.”
“I was always going to come back and there was never any doubts about that, so it was just about having my holidays and coming back to sign.”
