Notts County sign former Wales international

Notts County have signed Richard Duffy from Port Vale on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 30-year-old defender, who had been capped by Wales on 13 different occasions, had a weird path to signing with the Magpies. Initially he had turned down a deal with the Valiants, most likely due to a wage cut as they were once again forced to cut their budget this summer, and had dropped down into non-league to sign with Eastleigh.

However just one month after signing that contract with Eastleigh, he has had that deal cancelled so he can continue to play in the Football League with Notts County. He has now signed a two year contract with the club and hopefully he won’t be moving anywhere else this summer.

The signing of Duffy continues what had been a decent summer of recruitment for County who have already signed Matt Tootle from Shrewsbury Town, Adam Collin from Rotherham United and Alex Rodman from Newport County.

After signing for Notts County, Duffy said: “When they gave me a call and said would you want to come, there was only one answer really.”

“I hope to bring a bit of experience and leadership.”
