Villa line up £11million move for Championship ace

Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo is hoping to sign Fulham striker Ross McCormack for £11million this summer. The Sun (26th June, Page 70) understands that the Italian has made the Scottish forward his number one transfer target.

The 29-year-old is a proven scorer at Championship level based on his time at Leeds and Cardiff, in addition to Fulham. Last season alone, he scored 23 goals for the Whites.

The Glaswegian has been the subject of transfer speculation for a few seasons now. It was only quite recently that he signed a new deal at Craven Cottage. Nevertheless, Villa believe they can offer a sufficient financial package to the London club.

It is understood that Fulham would entertain bids for McCormack, but only at a certain valuation. With Aston Villa under new ownership, providing a suitable bid isn’t believed to be a problem. The club are now owed by Dr Tony Xia, who is planning to make Villa a force on the global scene.

It remains to be seen if McCormack would be interested in moving to another Championship club. He certainly won’t want to be involved in a relegation battle like he was last season.

McCormack made the move to Fulham in July 2014 for a fee believed to be £11million. He had scored over 50 goals for Leeds United prior to this.
